I received a message saying my Mac is heavily damaged and I have three viruses and need to download a Norton application. I think this is a scam, reading the answers to a similar question below but can someone please advise?

Sometimes an compromised website will give you warning like that which are bogus.
I got a notice on my macbook pro that my data had been compromised and that some of my personal information was possible being compromised or misused. I have never seen anything like this from Apple and I can't seem to remove it from my macbook. I even shut down my computer and restarted and it is still there. Is my computer being compromised?
It's a scam.
Any legitimate malware alert will be in response to you manually starting a scanner or uploading a file.
