At the moment I use a outlook Mail address for my Apple ID.
I have now set up a Icloud Mail address but I have been
trying to change my Apple ID to the icloud Mail address..
I got this pop up. Invalid email . This email is
being used for a alternative email address.
how do get over this issue

I would avoid using an iCloud email address as your Apple ID because should there be problems logging into your account you run the risk of not being able to read the recovery emails from Apple required to fix the problem.
