I can't get my new printer/scanner (Canon MF242dw) to work consistently with my iMac OS 10.15.7
Usually it says looking for printer. Occasionally it prints from the computer. Scanning and printing directly works.

Earlier last year, I had the same experience with a Canon Copier. The only solution I found was to connect the printer to the network with Ethernet, not Wi-Fi, and always shut it down when not in use. I since have had good luck with HP and Brother.
However, please also follow this procedure; First, delete all Canon printer software. Next, Reset the Mac printing system. Finally, Add a printer.

Thank you so much. Your advice worked. Connecting printer to my computer by cord and shutting printer down as soon as I was done, seems to work. I had tried connecting them before but did not turn the printer off when done, and it would not work.
