If the only thing wrong with my iPhone 8 is a minor chip on the front glass, how much will I be able to get for trade in?

Apple typically won't give you anything for a phone with a broken screen (even one with a tiny chip). You could pay to have the screen replaced, but that wouldn't be a smart investment. An iPhone 8 screen from Apple will cost $149. The trade value for an iPhone 8 is up to $110. You will have spent more to get a trade value from Apple, so it makes no sense to spend $149 to get $110. Sell the phone privately for spare parts and you'll at least come out ahead.
