Keyboard Icon

Since the update to iPadOS 15, there is a keyboard icon that appears at the bottom of the screen when I am using the Magic Keyboard. It provides quick access to settings. The problem is that it is also obscuring the input lines in programs such as Messages or Facebook Messenger- where new entries are automatically at the bottom of the screen. It can be minimized, but this simply shifts it to the lower right, still obscuring the text entries. Is there any way of turning off this obstructive icon?
