AirPods device prioritization

I’ve had my AirPods for a while now, and they always used to connect to my phone first. No matter what. I also have a Mac, and it would never automatically connect. I would always have to manually select my AirPods under Bluetooth on my laptop. I got a new phone recently, and now my AirPods always prioritize connecting to my Mac. EVEN WHEN ITS CLOSED, SLEEPING, AND NOT BEING USED. It is extremely frustrating, and I have tried forgetting my AirPods from both devices already but it still has not fixed the problem. Please help.

Hi Riley_1,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

We are happy to help with the issue you are having with your AirPods prioritizing your Mac when paired.

Is your Mac the last device that is used when this normally happens? "Your AirPods connect automatically to whatever device you’re listening to (you must be signed in with the same Apple ID).

For example, if you’re listening to music on your iPad, you can simply start playing music, a podcast, or other audio on your iPhone to switch devices. Your AirPods also switch to iPhone when you make or answer a call on iPhone." You can try following the steps in section "Switch AirPods back to your iPhone" in Switch AirPods between iPhone and other devices.

Cheers!
