Problem with Contact app on iMac

When I attempt to input a new contact in Contact on my iMac, I manage to put in first and last name and then the contact disappears. An existing, unrelated contact appears. This happened intermittmently but now it is consistent. I rely on this Contact and really want to get this problem resolved.

Thank you.

Boot into Safe Mode according to Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Thank you for your reply. When I started my Intel powered iMac per instructions, I got the usual user name and password but the sign in was grey. I didn't get the option to open in Safe Mode. I tried this 3 times but got the same results.

In this mode I tried to input a new contact into Contact and unfortunately got the same result. Put part of the name in and then that disappears and another contact that starts with A (as the one I'm trying to input) shows up.

Other suggestions?

Thanks

Hi Old Toad,

I tried your suggestion about the wireless keyboard. However, I had the same results - the option to select Safe Mode was not available. I had the same sign in as usual except that the username and password slots were grey. It appeared that some version of Safe Mode was being used by the computer.

I tried the Contact app and had the same trouble - no change. However, I noticed that the left side of the Contact page didn't have listed all the groups I had previously. Now it only had All Contacts, gmail contacts (Not a group I originally had and there were no contacts listed) and iCloud (also without contacts). When I selected All Contacts and tried to add a new contact I had the same problem. However, when I selected iCloud I could input a new contact! I did that in "Safe Mode" and when I restarted in the usual manner. So somethings changed, and I can input contacts. So thank you! It is unknown if this is a permanent resolution or just a passing prank to set me up for the next time. In any case, I'll be back if it shows up again.
