HP LaserJetP1102w will not work with Big Sur

I have done all the things HP help website recommends and I can't even find my printer.

I have read there are solutions in Apple. Would someone assist me please. It is rather costly and irritating when I upgrade to the latest software from apple, my printer and scanner don't work.

Hi,

It may be a good idea to reset the printing system. Does the operating system offer a suitable driver to use?

If not, you may want to try the Dec 11, 2020 HP Printer Drivers v5.1 for macOS (https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) package from Apple. This download has been known to work with a number of models even under Big Sur. Look for something like the HP LaserJet Professional P1100(w) version 6.9 driver mentioned in the Printer and scanner drivers for Mac - Apple Support article.

Also, there is an HP Easy Admin tool for Mac that allows administrators to download drivers without a connected printer. If you need software from HP, and there is a problem with HP Easy Start or HP Smart, you may want to try this tool.

The HP LaserJet P1102w does not appear to be a model supporting the driverless AirPrint technology (About AirPrint - Apple Support).

If necessary, try a wireless connection instead of USB, or vice versa.

Before testing drivers, make sure that you have backup copies of all important files (documents, photos, et cetera).

Sorry you are having this problem. One thing that must be done is to install a HP driver for that printer that is fully compliant with the operating system (Big Sur, in your case). You did not say if one is available or if you did install a compliant driver. Their web site does have a driver for OS version 11.5 which may work. Have you tried that? If it does not, then you might visit the link below where volunteers write drivers for printers which are no longer supported. Maybe one will work for you. Does your printer support Air Print? If so, that will work and does not use a print driver. I hope this helps.

I followed the advice I found on apple, system preferences, printers and clicked reset. It wiped out the printer I had registered there.

Then I clicked add a printer, typed in HPLaserJetP1102w; hooked the printer directly to my imac, held my breath and clicked print on a document. It worked. Thank you Apple for your suggestions. You are the best.

Good to hear that you found a way to add the printer.

About AirPrint, I should add that the HP LaserJet P1102w is not listed in the Apple (US) article published June 01, 2021. However, the printer is in fact mentioned in an old (February 13, 2012) iOS: AirPrint 101 HT4356 article. It cannot be ruled out that the model in question was made for an older AirPrint version.
