Holes in the 2020 Macbook Pro Keyboard (see the pictures!) What is happening with Apple?

I've always been a fan of Apple computers and since 2009 I've had 03 MacBook Pro models, all purchased from official Apple stores.

  • The first one in 2009 lasted 8 years without any problems.
  • The second one was bought in 2016 and presented a problem on the HD after 3 years of use. As all models are considered vintage after 4 years release, Apple Service couldn’t repair it.
  • The last one was acquired in March 2020 and unbelievably after 1 year and 3 months of use the paint on some keyboard letters started to fade and the black keyboard material (plastic - I believe?) started to vanish creating holes on it.

Definitely is not a misuse, nor any type of product that I applied in the place. The plastic on the keyboard is crumbling. I thought it might be a product recall, as the situation never happened with my previous MacBooks but then I went to Apple Service and the answer was:

- Unfortunately, the product is not covered by Apple Service anymore (1-year-warranty). There's nothing we can do, after all, it's only a cosmetic damage.

Ok. It’s a cosmetic damage but It's almost like buying an expensive Ferrari, driving it in the rain and realize the paint on the vehicle is fading away each day.

So yes, Apple. It's aesthetic, but totally frustrating and unexpected from a powerful and renowned brand that values quality, performance and experience.

Has anyone run into the same problem?

There have been other reports in this forum and I had similar wear on the A, E, and S keys (frequently used keys) of both a 2012 MacBook Air and 2016 MacBook Pro starting before they were 2 years old. I eventually had those 3 keys replaced at a local Authorized Service Provider. My current 2020 MacBook Pro so far has not shown any signs of the issues after 1 year 3 months. I trimmed fingernails much shorter on the fingers that hit those keys hoping to reduce the wear. So far so good but time will tell.
