Apple Watch Shuts Off/Cycles while swimming

For the past few months my Apple Watch has been cycling off and then restarting while I swim. It’s annoying because I’m trying to track my workouts and it takes about 5-7 minutes to start up again, then it’s off before it starts accurately tracking.

This is pool swimming. Doesn’t happen with any other workout. Happens whether I prompt the workout or watch sends a workout prompt.

I have tried: turning off WiFi, turning on airplane mode, turning on DND, turning water mode on and off.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I’ve been having the exact same problem. Started swimming regularly in the pool about three weeks ago, but for the last week my watch will shut down while I’m swimming and not record my workout. The “answered” does not explain why this is happening.

The first (and simplest) thing to try if something isn’t working right is to restart your Apple Watch and its paired iPhone. If necessary (device not responding), try a forced restart. Both methods can be found here:

If that doesn't help, the next steps would be to unpair and pair your watch again and restore from the backup just created. This should result in no loss of data. It deletes all temp and corrupted files and re-indexes the file system.
