iPad disabled connect to iTunes. when i connect iPad to iTunes nothing happens

I have been trying to get my husband's iPad air 2 back up and running. I have done the necessary restore/update but now the iPad says "iPad disabled, connect to iTunes". When i do that nothing happens. Please help! Thank you.

Read these instructions (specifically what you must do while connecting your iPad to the computer):

Keeping in mind that if you don't have a backup all data will be lost on that device (except those that you eventually synced to iCloud), pay attention to the specific gestures that you need to perform while connecting your iPad to a computer (Windows 10 PC running the latest iTunes version) or Mac (which can run iTunes or Finder, depending on the macOS installed on it), and follow these instructions to re-gain access to your device:--> If you forgot the passcode on your iPad, or your iPad is disabled

If you still can't connect your device to your computer, see also this support article:--> If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support

Thank you Giulio for your quick response. As I stated I did the restore/update and now when I turn on the Ipad Air 2 it tells me to connect to Itunes which I did and nothing happens. I have connected his Ipad to my IMAC which has the updated Big Sir OS system. This OS now 3 parts to Itunes -- Music, Podcasts and Apple TV. I tried connecting to the music part and nothing happens. In the instructions you gave me it says to make sure Ipad is turned on, unlocked and on home screen. Well I cannot get that far as far as unlocking and getting to the home screen as it keeps telling me to connect to itunes. Very frustrating.
