Each of the many times I've tried to update my mac to the Big Sur 11.5.1 it has failed with the following: "An error occurred while downloading the selected updates. Please check your internet connection and try again". Note that my internet works.

Thanks for your response. Right after posting the question I cleaned up some old files thinking it could be due to lack of free space ... it worked !!! I would think that the error message could have said "not enough free space for the upgrade" vs my internet is not working. :-) Thanks again!!
Are you running any VPN, Anti-Virus, or Cleaning apps?
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.
