2021 MacBook Pro (M1 chip) can't find HP scanner

I am unable to use a late model HP ScanJet Pro 2500 f1 scanner with a 2021 MacBook Pro 13" with Apple silicon.

After booting to safe mode, clicking Apple > About this Mac, under "USB," the MacOS (v11.5.1) precisely recognizes the HP ScanJet hardware as attached to one of the USB ports.

When one goes to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners and click "+" to discover/add the scanner... nothing.

The HP Smart app found/added an HP printer, no problem. But it is blind to the scanner.

Likewise, the HP Easy Scan app doesn't see the scanner.

I spent an hour with Apple Support last night... no solution.

Anybody?

Keith: the latest:

Mr. Hamrick of ViewScan had me install the 64bit version. It did not work. For this scanner, he says, his software relies on an HP scanner driver having been installed.

Someone a year ago had issues getting this scanner to work with a Mac Mini running Catalina and provided a link to an HP driver that caused it to work. Guess I'll attempt that.
