Everytime I try to update to Big Sur 11.5.1 it does the download and then freezes with exactly 15 minutes remaining and when clicking on the x it says the failed to download check the Internet connection but my Internet connection is just fine (high speed, hardwired Ethernet).
I've tried 5 times to update so far with the exact same problem each time.
I'm on a new 27 inch iMac that came with Big Sur installed.

I had the same issue earlier today on a 2020 MacBook Pro but in my case it did work the second time. You may want to wait until later today or tomorrow in case it is related to the volume of devices being updated today.
It worked Jack! I tried again without the Safe Mode and it didn't work then I tried with it and it worked!

Actually, I downloaded and installed 11.5.1 yesterday, and went thru all of the security reboots (new password, synch apple ID) yet today, I have notification that I need to install 11.5.1 and when I look at 'about', 11.5.1 IS NOT INSTALLED. Maddening.
After failing to download 11.5.1 multiple times for days and then trying with a Safe Mode bootup, it is giving me the message “Your Mac is up to date — macOS Big Sur 11.3.1”
That has happened multiple times the last few days as well.”
I have had over two dozen download failures!
I need better solutions, please!!
I had the same problem. Ultimately, I went in to 'Safe' mode, downloaded the app and the software, then...and this is critical...gave it about 3 hours to finish the install. Did I have that on my calendar? No, I did not.

Thank you, I'll give this a try, though I have been trying for 3 days now. I will also give's Jack's Safe Mode a try as well. 🙂

macOS 11.5.1 was released today. Were you trying to update to 11.5 earlier?

Good question, I didn't pay much attention to the number! But I have been trying for several days to update. Do I need to update to 11.5 first?

Only 11.5.1 should be available currently.

Yes, I'm just looking and that's all I can find. I will give the Safe Mode a try tonight and see if that works... and then I will report back.
