Hello SalyBots,
Thanks for reaching out to us in Apple Support Communities about how to connect to Wi-Fi away from home, we're happy to help by looking into this more!
If you see a know Wi-Fi network and you have issues connect to it, here's a resource that can help:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t connect to a Wi-Fi network
If you try all the steps in this article and still can't connect, does this happen with all Wi-Fi network you try to connect to or only a particular Wi-Fi network? Also, do you receive a specific error message when trying to connect?
Finally, have you spoken to the provider of the Wi-Fi network to make sure you are allowed on the network?
Hope this helps.
Best Regards.
SalyBots,
Thanks for reaching back out to us. We want to make sure we are on the same page with how Wi-Fi networks work. Wi-Fi has a very limited range. The network is typically about the size of a house, sometimes a little larger. When you leave your home, available Wi-Fi networks are going to be few and far between. In addition to this, you will need to have permission and the correct password to be able to connect to these networks, which is rarely the case.
To help solve this issue, and to provide more consistent internet access when away from home you can pay your wireless carrier (in this case T-Mobile) to provided you with cellular data. Or internet access when away from home. If you currently have a cellular data plan with T-Mobile and you iPhone is not connecting to cellular data, this article can help:
If you see No Service or Searching on your iPhone or iPad
If you're expecting to find a Wi-Fi network in a known area away from home, and your iPhone is not finding this network, this article can help:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t connect to a Wi-Fi network
Best Regards.
I just wanted to know what my settings should be so when I leave home my phone will automatically find a WiFi network. I have an iPhone 12 and my service provider is T-Mobile.

There really aren't very many options for WiFi on your iPhone beyond turning it on or off. If WiFi is enabled, your phone will automatically join WiFi networks you've connected to before.
