Maps keeps recentering when searching

Whenever I zoom to an area and try to search there Maps will recenter on my current location for the search. This is especially frustrating when planning a road trip; I want to know where restaurants and hotels are in a city I'm going to in a month, not where I am right now. How do I get it to stop doing this?
