target display mode

Hello! I am trying to use my mid 2010 21.5" iMac with High Sierra 10.13.6 as a target display for my Mac Book Air 2017 also with High Sierra 10.13.6. I have a mini display cable connecting both computers, but the target display does not seem to work. I tried all the tips from the website, but still no luck. Anything else you would recommend?

Target Display Mode I've been trying to follow the Target Display Mode directions for using my mid-2011 27" iMac, running OS High Sierra 10.13.6, as a display for my 2017 13" MacBook Air, connecting them with a Thunderbolt cable. I can't get Target Display Mode to work using these directions, including all the "other solutions." The best I can get is the desktop picture from my other Mac, but none of the applications will show. Any ideas?

Target Display Mode Not Working: iMac 27-inch, mid 2011 and MacBook Pro 2017 Hello, I have been trying to use my iMac (27 inch, mid 2011 w/OS High Sierra 10.13.6) as a second display with my macbook pro (13-inch, 2017, two thunderbolt 3 ports w/Catalina 10.15.7). I purchased the thunderbolt 2 > 3 adapter, and a thunderbolt 2 cord to connect to my imac. When i press Command + F2, my imac is not going into target display mode like all the forums mention. What am I doing wrong?

The iMac (21.5 inch, Mid 2010) model cannot be used as an external display. Here is an article with more information.

21,5" 2010 iMacs were never supported. TDM would need a 27" 2010 iMac to work. In short, its not going to work!
