Family sharing/ iMessages

My 11 yo son just got his first iPhone. He already has an iPad where he sends and receives texts using his iCloud account. We would like to forward his messages from the iPad to his iPhone but when I go under messages on his phone, i am not able to change anything. Any suggestions?

Have you tried setting up iCloud Messages syncing on his devices?
