Bought iPad mini with wifi option

Wondering what that means as I don’t have wifi outside of home and would like wifi at all times.

cellular is outside of your house

wifi is when you are within range of your wifi router or if you are within range of a free open wifi network some restaurants and the likes have that.

if you wanted wifi at all time then you should have gone with the cellular model and then of cause you would not have wifi at all times but you would have internet access at all times when you were within range of your carrier.

If you own an Apple iPhone with a cellular service plan you use the the WiFI hotspot feature of the the phone to connect/link your iPad to an iPhone in order to get access to the Internet outside of your home.

If you own some other smart phone, that phone may have a similar capability to connect your iPad to, to get access to the Internet outside of the Home.

Failing all of these, cellular service carriers have special portable MiFi, WiFi hotspot devices you can carry to connect your iPad to, to get access to your cellular phone service plan or to purchase a monthly cellular plan and use this WiFi hotspot device with your iPad when on the go.

Otherwise, you would need to return this iPad and purchase a WiFi + cellular data model ( cannot make any cellular phone calls on ANY iPad ), pay for a service plan and SIM card/chip that can be installed into these cellular data iPad models, so you can have 24/7 access to the Internet/email and messaging.

iPads with cellular data capabilities are more expensive.

Also, iPads with cellular data capabilities also have the ability to be a full GPS and voice navigation system as these iPad models contain the needed GPS satellite antennas added to them that are both used for GPS and cellular service reception/connectivity.

If you purchased a WiFi ONLY iPad? No.

There is no way to modify the internals of a WiFi ONLY iPad to make it ”magically” become a cellular data model, other than I already outlined.

If this iPad is new and within Apple's 14-day return period, you can return this iPad model and purchase the more expensive WiFi+cellular data version.

If this iPad is past its 14-day return window, you would need to try and sell this iPad yourself and use the monetary proceeds to purchase a WiFi+cellular data model iPad OR simply look into the options I already outlined by visiting a cellular phone service carrier.

Best of Luck to You!
