Magic keyboard with Touch ID compatibility

I have a late 2018 MacBook Air and I was wondering if the new magic keyboards with Touch ID that come with the new M1 iMacs can be:

a)bought separately?

b) connected with my existing MacBook

At this time they are only being supplied with the new iMacs.

Only Apple knows if they have any plans to make the

new keyboards available for any other Macs.
