the Mac store tells me that the apps are not available in the U.S. even though they are. Ive tried changing my region but it requires me to disconnect my Apple Music subscription. How do I fix this issue??

You may only change the country for your account if you are a legal resident of that country and have a payment method for that country with a verifiable billing address in that country.
And yes, changing your country does require that you cancel all subscriptions before you may do so, including Apple Music. There are no acceptions.
