Suddenly Apple tv 3rd generation menu does not show up.

Apple tv 3rd generation menu does not show up. I get a black screen with the Apple logo but the menu does not appear when selected on the remote. White indicator light on the Apple TV box flashes slowly and continuously.

I've restarted, unplugged, replugged, everything several times without any luck. Never had this problem before. Put a new battery in the remote too.
