If you have an apple watch only not activated to a phone would it be able to do the fall detect function?

My dad has a Samsung phone. I want to get him an Apple Watch for the hard fall alert. Would it work for him?

No,an apple watch requires an iphone to work and will not pair or function with an android phone.
