Your MacBook has inadequate storage for your current usage, and there is no means to upgrade the internal storage on recent MacBook models. Other than a replacement Mac.

A MacBook with inadequate storage will necessarily be manually managed for whatever you’re next doing, and that will be an ongoing task. The frustration you are encountering is part of the trade-off for any purchase savings.

This condition plagues some of those that have purchased the 128 GB models, but can arise with any mis-sized Mac storage configuration.

Pending any Mac replacement, you can re-install on and boot and use external storage (which is a hassle when moving around), or you can try offloading (more) to iCloud Drive with the Desktop and Documents setting.

My MacBook Pro disk IS full ... I’ve got quite a few gig in the bin, but because the “disk is full” , I cannot empty the bin ? Surely not you say ... but yes it’s true. There must be a solution ? Regards

Gigabytes aren’t as big as they used to be. The world got bigger. Low-end Mac storage unfortunately didn’t get bigger faster.

Boot Safe Mode and then try the clean-up again.

This mess isn’t going to go away; you’ll want a Mac that better meets your actual storage requirements.

On any bottom-end Mac configuration (256 Gb or smaller) I’d prefer to keep at least twenty gigabytes free absolutely minimally, and preferably substantially more than that. Roughly 10% of a bottom-end configuration. And that’s very easy to quickly consume.

Do not expect add-on cleaner apps to help here. I do not recommend using those.

Are you able to do a TimeMachine backup? If so, do one.

Are you paying for an iCloud subscription? If not, you should definitely consider doing it. At $.99/mo it makes situations like these much easier to handle as you can save all your photos/music to the cloud and get lots of space back.

If it were me, once I did everything mentioned above, I would erase the Mac completely and re-install MacOS. It's much easier than trying to limp one's way back to a regular running machine. You can then restore what you want (carefully) from your TimeMachine backup.

The reality is the size of your Mac's internal storage may be insufficient long-term.
