Logic Pro X 10.6.2 update extremely sluggish when my audio interface is plugged in

Yesterday I updated Logic from v. 10.6.1 to 10.6.2. As soon as I did that, Logic would give me a spinning wheel every time I opened it (even if it was just an empty project). If there was any audio in the project, the transport buttons/spacebar would take ~3 seconds to register (start/stop playback) and the meters would be extremely laggy.

All of these problems vanish as soon as I unplug or turn off my audio interface, which is a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 (1st Gen). Naturally I had a look in Focusrite's website to see if there are any driver updates I'm missing, but I have the latest ones installed. Other software (like Live 11) continue to run just fine, so this is connected to the latest update somehow.

I am wondering if there are other people who face the same issue with different audio interfaces, or if it's just a problem on my end. I should mention I am running Catalina 10.15.7 on a MacBook Pro 16 inch.

Thanks in advance.

Important update: Issue is resolved when I deactivate my audio interface's MIDI input port. The funny thing is as soon as I tried this, Logic felt snappier than it did prior to updating, not sure if that's purely psychological though.

I could not replicate this issue on other DAWs (by activating the MIDI input and/or output port).

Hope this helps anyone who might be facing the same issue, but I am curious how the latest update is connected to this somehow. The only thing I could find on the release notes that might be related is this:

MIDI controllers and control surfaces

  • Resolves several issues with Lua script support for control surfaces.

Also, not sure deactivating your MIDI port qualifies as a solution. :-)

I agree with you there, I was just happy I found a temporary solution to be able to start working again. :)

I do want to get to the bottom of this, however, so I tried what you suggested and it also solves the issue once I bypass all control surfaces. I'm getting outside my area of knowledge here, so I appreciate any help, but I opened the Control Surface Setup window and I have multiple instances of the same controller (not connected) with the input port set to my audio interface. Again, not sure if this is related at all but I'm wondering if I should delete all of these as I don't use them anymore (screen shot attached below). There is an exclamation mark next to each icon, except for the first KeyRig 49. There was one until I tried changing the Input/Output to see what happens.

Does anyone know of a way around for it? I use the midi ports on my sound card so deactivating it is not an option for me? I've actually had to revert back to 10.6.1 from another machine just to get any work done. This has almost stopped me dead in my tracks. Logic is almost unusable after this update. I have a Behringer UMC 404HD. It's plug and play so there isn't a driver available for it.

What actually solved the issue for me was when I opened the Control Surface Setup window (Logic Pro > Control Surfaces > Setup) and deleted multiple controllers (not connected and not used anymore) which had the input port set to my audio interface. Maybe deleting them and then reconnecting everything that you use might solve your issue as well? Like Pancenter mentioned in his first comment, "It could very well be a MIDI loop or a controller issue."
