Can you restore your old Mac back to factory settings without losing data?

After completing the data transfer using the migration app, can you restore your old mac back to factory settings without losing data on your new Mac?

Yes if everything transferred properly. Just first make sure all your data transferred properly and you can open and read those files.


You should always have frequent and regular backups. FYI, it is impossible to recover accidentally deleted data from an SSD after the Trash has been emptied plus an SSD can fail at any time without any warning signs. In addition if your new Apple laptop ever has any type of Logic Board failure, then you may lose all data that was not backed up. I'm not even sure an expensive professional data recovery service will be able to recover data from a non-working Apple Logic Board on the 2018+ USB-C Macs.
