My Office Mac 2011 product key is not getting activated on my new MacBook. It seems the key is invalid. Can you assist?

My MS Officemac 2011 disk is not working. When I tried installing MS Office on my laptop after re-configuring the MacBook Pro, it continually gave a message of 'invalid token' with a reference number. I had paid AED 700 for this at the time of purchase but it seems the only way to have it work is to purchase MS 365. Can someone assist, is the Purchase Token indeed invalid or is there a way of making it work, since I paid good money for it when I purchased it in 2015!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.2

It actually states 'Token Not Found' although it is the very same token which I had initially used in 2015 and activated without signing in from my Microsoft/Hotmail ID...

That is because MS has taken done the activation servers for obsolete cersion of Office. I had the same issue with Office 2008 and a valid key.

If you do not have a lot of Office files, you can consider the open-source productivity suite LibreOffice. It is mature and very stable, and can read and write Office files.

One caveat: if you have a very large number of Word files, LibreOffices's word-processing components may change the margins. I found no way to batchcorrect this; they had to be reset indivually. Had I but a few Word files, that would not be an issue, but I have thousands. When Office 2008 would not reinstall, I ended up buying Office:Mac 2019. It is quite nice—much better the Office for Windows IMHO.

Update your Microsoft software to be compatibly with macOS.

If you have Office 2011 for Mac or before WILL NOT run, For Catalina Office 2016 for Mac needs to be v15.35 or later.

Update the software : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-office-for-mac

The current Office for Mac; Office 365 or Office 2019 (One-time purchase) are OK with Catalina/Big Sur

Big Sur compatibility—Microsoft recently announced that it was officially ending support for Office 2016 for Mac on October 13, 2020. Apple Silicon compatibility in Office 2016 is questionable. Office 2019 no issues.

To activate a Microsoft Office 365 subscription you simply enter the email address you used when you extended the subscription with Microsoft.
