House fire. Recovering Photos

Last year we my family had a house fire. I recovered three MacBooks from the home. I was able to salvage the hard drives and plug into an external hard drive, thinking I would be able to save these memories from 2006-2009. When I plugged in, all seemed savvy until I got the message (iPhoto isn’t supported in this version of macOS). It appears that the photos I'm hoping to recover are STUCK in an old format/version of iPhoto. Is there anyway to recover these family memories?

What computer are you using to view them?

If you are on Catalina or above, iPhoto won't work since it is 32 bit.

Photos can view your images. Launch Photos with the option key held down. From the resulting dialog, choose your iPhoto Library. Photos will create a new library with your iPhoto media. Your iPhoto library will not be changed, though it will be renamed.

If these libraries are still on the rescued hard drives, you might want to copy the libraries off, first.
