Ipod Nano 3rd Gen RESET/BOOT loop when plugged in. Do I need a functioning battery?

Hello. My Nano 3rd gen (square one) doesn't have a working battery. However, days ago it would work perfectly fine when plugged into a power source.

Recently, even when plugged in, it won't go past the boot screen. It goes to the apple logo, shuts off, then starts again and resets.

I can't flash the system as it doesn't stay on long enough.

I'm wondering if this is just a battery problem. But does it actually need a functioning battery? Why won't it stay on while it's plugged in?

Hi,

It sounds like the iPad nano won't stay powered on long enough for you to do anything with it in iTunes. If you've already tried the steps previously suggested, we'd attempt to use another cable between the iPhone and PC. In case that doesn't solve it, then it would require service. Currently, the iPad nano 3 generation is considered obsolete. Which means, Apple Stores or Apple Authorized Service Providers cannot service them.

We know this wasn't the answer you were hoping to receive. At this point, it might be best to look into other options for when you would use the iPod nano. For example, if you use it during workouts and already own an iPhone, you could look into the Apple Watch; since you can load music there to listen while working out. This is simply a suggestion, as there could be many uses and Apple products that might suit you better.

Wishing you the best, cheers.

Hello there,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, your iPod nano isn't booting past the Apple logo. We'll do our best to assist with this.

What happens when you attempt to put it in recovery mode, as explained here: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen

Where you able to see the iPod nano in iTunes on PC or the Finder on a Mac?

Let us know if that helps to sort this out, take care!
