My iPad Air will not update iOS to 14.4

How can I update my iPad to new iOS? My iPad indicates it is up to date at 12.5.1. My iPhone has iOS 14.4. The iPad is not ready to update automatically.

Your iPad Air 1st gen cannot support iOS versions beyond 12.5.1 because of hardware (CPU/RAM) incompatibility, sorry.
