can't access itunes store

i get a message:

could not connect to the itunes store. an unknown error occurred (11556). make sure network connection is active and try again.

my connection is active. i tried again. still get the message. help.

Hello Minglebells.

The only reference to that particular error I can find is from a support article that no longer even exists on this web site, so it may not mean the same thing:

"Error 11556"

This alert occurs when iTunes is trying to do something not allowed by the iTunes Store in that country.

The most common example of this is trying to sign in while limited to iTunes U by Parental Controls.


Otherwise, read the suggestions in these support documents:


Resolve issues between iTunes and third-party security software - https://support.apple.com/HT201413 - You can’t connect to iTunes Store to buy or download content.


"If you can't connect to the App Store, iTunes Store, or Apple Books" click here --> https://support.apple.com/HT201400

- If none of the suggestions work, try the last one: "If you’ve tried all of the above steps and you still can’t connect, contact Apple Support."
