connection of a Seagate Backup Plus Portable Drive to my new Mac-air

My existing drive was used with my older MacBook to back up my files. It has a USB connector. Is the Apple USB-C to USB adaptor what I need to buy?

USB port on new MacBook Air I backed up my old MacBook Air to Seagate. My new MacBook Air does not have the typical USB port. Do I need another cord/connection to plug in the seagate to transfer the data?

That, or a dock, or potentially a replacement hard disk drive (newer, larger, or faster, etc), yes.
