What happens if Quicktime is unable to open/convert the file? An issue I am having with all of my videos.

I am unable to view all the cool videos I have taken on my iPhotos in my laptop. I have tried everything!

MacBook Air 13″, OS X 10.11

I suppose you are using OS X 10.11? If yes, set the iPhone to shoot old-style H.264 instead the new H.265/HEVC movie codec (macOS 10.13 was the first to support that as well as HEIC images). Use VLC or Handbrake to view (or IINA) or convert them to H.264, if necessary.
