Keynote - Hiding objects to facilitate working on a slide

It there any easy way to temporarily hide objects when working on a slide? If you're having objects appear and then be replaced (old disappears and new appears) by other objects in the same location on the slide, it is very difficult to work on the animations when all the objects are just stacked on top of each other as you are making the slide - this is particular true when working with text objects...

I've been using a very cumbersome and unacceptable workaround - changing the opacity of all the non-focus objects to zero while I work on the object in focus and then changing each back again each time I want to preview the slide.

It seems like a pretty basic functionality for any program that lets you program animations for elements (most programs allow you to hide layers with other objects) ... but I can't find a similar function in Keynote.

That's even more tedious than the workaround I mentioned in my post... this is such basic functionality in any program that included the ability to animate elements that I'm truly surprised keynote missed it...

A hide object function would be very useful, but there isn't one in Keynote.

use show object list: View > Show Object List

click on the objection to be altered in the list; to select it, then make the adjustments you require

click and drag the objects in the list to reorder the object in the layer stack,

you can temporarily place the object at the top of the stack, to see the complete object, after making changes, place it back in the correct layer
