i have a iphone se and after loading my music on to it from itunes i find that the album artwork does not match the song being played. what have I done wrong?

OK, fixed it, I went to itunes and deselected all the music so that it deleted it from my phone and then I put it back on and this time everything worked OK.

I don't suspect you've done anything wrong, but I suspect that once the iPhone has got things mixed up no amount of further syncing is going to repair it. See this post on erratic syncing to clean things up and start over.
