Ability to send / receive a fax on iPhone

Given iPhone's super image processing powers, why not the ability to send / receive a fax? Yes, there are still legal reasons to use faxing. Why pay some remote cloud server to process a fax for a fee when the power of the iPhone would be much faster and safer?

It has nothing to do with processing power. Faxes are sent over regular landline telephone lines. You simply can't send them from an iPhone (or any cellular phone). The only way to send a fax from a device that is not connected to a landline is by using a fax server.
