I got a text message to update my apple id password. Does the apple ask the users to change the apple id password????

Apple won't text you to do that. If there is a link to change the password, don't click it.

February 3rd has already passed, which makes the text more suspicious. Did you request your password to be reset?

There is a link and i did not click it. The text said the following:

You can now reset your Apple ID password at apple.com/recover

Be sure to do this before 02/03.
