How can I change a part of my text color?

I can't figure out why it's possible sometimes to change only a few word from a sentence to another color, and while working on the same file after 30 minutes, if I select a part of the text, Motion apply the color change to the entire text.


Can someone help me out? Thanks a lot!

For example, select the Text tool and type something like:


Select the word "red" in the canvas:



In the Inspector, select Text, then Appearance and, if necessary click the word Show next to Face (you will have to hover the cursor near the word Face:



Click the color well (the white rectangle) and choose a color
