Apps freezes when paste images on Apple M1.

Is this happening to someone? when I copy an image to my clipboard and try to paste it into any app, the app just freezes and after minutes it works again, but the image is not pasted. So far it has been happening in Slack, MS Word, Messages App, Photoshop, Etc. So I believe it has something to do with either the Mac OS or there is any app messing with it.

Does this happen to someone? do you know a fix?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.2

I met this problem almost on the first day I got this m1 mac. I think this is related to chromium because all these apps are using electron or sth similar. Also, small pictures are OK. Pasting to WeChat is very fluent on the other hand. So I guess the issue happens when:

  1. Using Apple M1 chip
  2. Using chromium to paste a picture from the clipboard
  3. The picture is larger than a certain size(like a full-screen snapshot will reproduce it)

Here is my version info for mac and chromium.

I also thought maybe WeChat screenshot has some special format that other apps can't understand. However, I ruled out this possibility after using the native screenshot tool for a while.

Now my workaround is

  1. Paste that image into WeChat and re-snapshot it with a lower resolution(if the resolution is not important to this snapshot which is the most commons case)
  2. Paste that image into wechat and save in the File System and upload through file(if the resolution matters)

I have same issue too. Pasting image from clipboard to Chrome or Slack sometimes crashes the app. It's not 100% it's sometimes. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it freezes the app and i use force quit the app and then restart and try again. It have never ever happen on any mac for me be but this new-ish M1.

I'm not sure about this, but maybe it's related to Chrome, while Slack is built on top of same tech. Slack built on Electron, Electron uses same underlying engine software as chrome, could it be the reason? I don't really use any other apps to paste images, so can't tell if it has any relation to issue.

I have node apps crashes in report, don't worry about those. i do some development with node.

I was thinking the same, so I'm trying to stick to the minimum of intel-based kernel extensions. I'm going to try to wipe out the mac and install at least the minimum I need for my job, I knew it was a bit risky to buy this computer as my main workforce since it is relatively new and unsupported for many apps. but so far, incredibly the advantages far outweigh these problems or errors that I have.

Is there any kernel extension that you may recommend I remove?

Thank you so much for your help and time! :)

I would not say "risky". And I agree (from my somewhat limit and indirect, experience) that the benefits of this machine are awesome.

Do you require these, perhaps to control your pointing device? If not, then I'd try deleting them:

/Library/Extensions

Wireless360Controller.kext - com.mice.driver.Wireless360Controller (1.0 - SDK 10.11)

WirelessGamingReceiver.kext - com.mice.driver.WirelessGamingReceiver (1.0 - SDK 10.11)

WirelessOneController.kext - com.mice.driver.WirelessOneController (1.0 - SDK 10.11)

360Controller.kext - com.mice.driver.Xbox360Controller (1.0 - SDK 10.11)

Although the environment may be different. I guess he refer at the same process or actions to evoque the problem described by me in the main description of this conversation. which is when trying to paste an image from clipboard to a slack conversation will ended up in the app freezing in a randomly basis. in my case I was able to reproduce the problem on safe mode as well, and after remove extensions, software, etc. this is still happening... and I just sadly find a workaround (using dropbox image link) and teach myself not to directly paste images on conversations in the hopes of an update of OS that solves the problem.

so the problem seem to be the same, even If what causes it may it be different.
