Weak security

Hmm, that was a walkthrough. I can only repeat it as bullet points.

1. Find the admin name and password on your router. It's normally on a sticker.
2. In your web browser, put 192.168.0.1 in the search field and press enter.
3. A sheet should appear asking you to enter the admin name and password to get into the router's settings. Those are on the sticker in step 1.
4. Find the Wi-Fi settings page in your browser.
5. Change the wireless settings to anything that does not use WEP or WPA. Use only WPA2 and/or WPA3.
6. Save the changes.

If you're still unsure, you're going to have to ask for help from someone locally who knows how to do this.

It means your router's wireless signal is using WEP or the original WPA, rather than the more secure WPA2 or WPA3.

It's just a warning that your router is susceptible to hacking, not your Mac, iPhone or iPad.

To fix it, go into your router's web page settings and change the wireless signals (both 2.4 and 5 GHz) to use nothing lower than WPA2. Check your router's manual to see how to access those settings.

Look on your router. If it's at least reasonably new, there will be a sticker on it with the admin name and password, along with the default Wi-Fi password.

In any web browser (like the one you're using now), open a new tab and put this in the search bar:

192.168.0.1

This is the default IP address of almost all routers. You should be prompted to enter the admin name and password found on the sticker. Put this in and continue.

Since router's aren't identical, I can't tell you exactly where to look in the web pages that appear, but you're looking for the Wi-Fi security settings. You'll know you've found it when you see menu choices for WPA, WEP, WPA2, etc.

Right now, they're set to use the older WEP and/or WPA. Usually, it's a combination like WEP/WPA. Click on the drop down menu and choose any other option that doesn't include WEP or WPA. Use WPA2 and/or WPA3 only. Selecting WPA2/WPA3 is fine, if you have that choice.

Click any button on the page that saves your changes. It's usually the obvious choice of Save, or Save Changes. The router may tell you it has to restart to apply the changes.
