Can you use a 38mm strap on a 42mm series 3 watch?

Hi, my husband has bought me the Apple Watch series 3 42mm however the strap is way too big, even in the tightest hole.

can I purchase a 38mm strap to use instead or will it not fit the watch? Thanks.

The mm value is the display size, which affects the case size.

Many watch bands are either adjustable, or can be purchased in different wrist sizes.

When shopping you want a band for the 42mm or 44mm. Most bands you are looking for will be marketed as fitting the 44mm Apple Watch, but they will work with the 42mm as well.
