Hi Sheryl,
Thanks for the update.
Try starting to safe mode and see if you can update there:
How to use safe mode on your Mac
Are you otherwise able to browse in Safari when on Wi-Fi? You should try restarting your networking equipment as well, such as your modem and router.
Best of luck.

Hi Sheryl,
It sounds like you're having some trouble upgrading your Mac and we can help.
What is happening when you try to update? Are you already using macOS 11 Big Sur?

Hi Sheryl,
Thanks for giving that a shot.
Can you tell us more about what's happening? Do you receive an error? If you're told to check your Wi-Fi connection, that is an indication that your local network isn't operating with full network connectivity. Did you try restarting your networking equipment?
Previously, we asked if Wi-Fi was working when not trying to update your macOS as well. For example, when browsing the internet, or checking your email. If it does not, we'd suggest attempting to connect to a different Wi-Fi network using: Manage the Wi-Fi connection on your Mac - Apple Support
If you're able to connect when using a different Wi-Fi network, If your Mac doesn't connect to the Internet over Wi-Fi - Apple Support can help you troubleshoot your specific network.
Let us know more and we'll try to help.

Yes, I'm using macOS Big Sur. I have repeatedly tried to update as instructed and it tells me to check my wifi. I've checked the wifi and restarted the wifi with unsatisfactory results. Apple help team referred me to an outside repair service 3 hours south of me.
I have tried safe mode to download update and that doesn't work either.
