Cannot install Big Sur 11.2

Hi foks,

I am trying to install update 11.2 for Big Sur but it fails during the preparing to install stage saying that it cannot download the update. It has actually finished the download. The end of the the install.log file is attached.

I think the key part is

[MobileSoftwareUpdateErrorDomain(MSU):MSU_ERR_BRIDGEOS_PERSONALIZATION_FAILURE(44)_1_OSPErrorDomain:201_2_AuthInstallErrorDomain:11], NSUnderlyingError=0x7fa7ab3871c0 {Error Domain=MobileSoftwareUpdateErrorDomain Code=44 "bridgeOS personalization failed" UserInfo={NSUnderlyingError=0x7fa7ab344aa0 {Error Domain=OSPErrorDomain Code=201 "An error occurred during personalization." UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=An error occurred during personalization., NSUnderlyingError=0x7fa7ab3dce60 {Error Domain=AuthInstallErrorDomain Code=11 "(null)"}}}, NSLocalizedDescription=bridgeOS personalization failed, target_update=20D64}}}

Does anyone know how the fix this. I have a

MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)
2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7

Think BridgeOS is to do with the T2 chip.

Model Name: Apple T2 Security Chip
  Firmware Version: 18P3030

Thanks in advance,

Ian

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the extensive details! You are correct regarding bridgeOS; that is the hidden operating system running on the T2 Security Chip.

The personalization process contacts Apple servers to sign a per-device request for the update. AFAIK this only happens in the default Full Security boot mode, and most of the time this works fine.

To resolve this issue, I'd first try downloading and running the full macOS Big Sur installer from the Mac App Store. It will automatically include the 11.2 update inside.

If the installer refuses to run, you could try either of the following:

Hi there IanAshleyEckoh,

We understand that you are getting an error when you try to install the latest version of macOS. We’d be glad to assist.

To start, which version of macOS is your MacBook Pro currently running?

Find out which macOS your Mac is using

Let’s also try disconnecting any external hard drives, audio devices, or other peripherals from your Mac and trying to install the update again.

If you still get the same issue, try to install the update in a new user account.

Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

We hope that helps! Cheers.
