How do I transfer data from old 2011 macbook Pro to new 2020 macbook air. tried wireless didnt work

Backup your old mac to an external drive with Time Machine. Connect the backup drive to your new mac. Boot your new Mac and use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to move content
