how to unlock an iphone

I forgot the password to an old iphone, and I locked it. Now it says iphone disabled connect to itunes. BUT when logging into itunes it does not unlock it

If you forgot the passcode on your iPhone, or your iPhone is disabled - Apple Support explains how to "connect to itunes."
