Key repeat setting changes on its own

I am facing the issue of a few key repeating on their own. This happens most often with S and E keys. This was irritating enough on its own. As a remedy and to troubleshoot the problem, I went to the system preference->keyboard and changed the "key repeat" slider to off. This stays there for the time being but every time system wakes up, the setting changes back to default level, one step ahead of the mid-level on it's own.

I am facing this issue on Macbook Air 2018, running macOS Big Sur with the latest patches. Does anyone else face the same issue? Have you figured out a workaround?

FWIW, the Key Repeat setting actually has no effect in Big Sur on keys repeating or not. If it is set to off it disables the accent menu. As far as keys repeating, I have the same thing on occasion depending on what keyboard I'm using. I don't know how to fix it.

If resetting the NVRAM doesn't help try booting into Safe Mode by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

I forgot to mention, you can try resetting NVRAM to see if it stops the setting from changing.
