Trying to migrate from old MacBook pro to a new MacBook pro over wifi. Looks like it is staying paused on searching for files and apps to transfer. Hasn't really moved in about an hour. Is this normal?

One hour is not that long, the migration could take multiple hours. However over WiFi things can take considerably longer. I suggest you try the migration using a Time Machine backup drive, that will be much faster than WiFi.
