how do I upgrade the OS for an iMac 21.5-inch, Late 2012? The softwares are not compatible anymore, it's on Software OS X 10.9.5 (13F1911)

You can upgrade up to Catalina 10.15.7 and may find the following link useful to get to the version of Mac OS you want https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683
