Transferring Data from 2014 Macbook Pro to 2019 Macbook Pro via Migration Assistant

have a 2014 Macbook Pro running Mojave and I'm trying to transfer the data to a new 2019 Macbook pro running Catalina. When I follow the directions using Migration Assistant, the new Macbook doesn't recognize the old one. I just get spinning wheels as it tries to locate the device. I've tried with both on the same WiFi network. And I've tried off network, using a USB cable. Any help would be appreciated!!

Hi jbpetty,

If you have the correct cables, you could try putting the 2014 MacBook Pro in Target Disk Mode.

Or, try updating the 2014 MacBook Pro to macOS Catalina. Install any minor updates available on the 2019 MacBook Pro as well. Then, try using Migration Assistant on both Macs again.

Should you have a 'Time Machine' backup, that can be useful in resolving this matter.

This can be used to help transfer older machine data to newer mac, & other things.
