I just got a new ipad. I want to give my old ipad mini 2 to a family member who is not tech savvy. I don't want my information, text messages or programs accessible to others. What steps should I take before giving this ipad mini 2 to someone else.

Tap Settings > iTunes & App Store and sign out from your Apple ID. Finally, tap Settings > General > Reset. From the list of options, select Erase all content and settings and confirm your choice.
